Number 3

Basti or enema therapy

Vata’s predominant site is our colon.

Ayurvedic basti includes the introduction to the anus of herbal concoctions and specific herbal preparations at a liquid medium. Basti, is the best remedy of vata disorders, although a lot of enemas within a prescribed time period are often required. It alleviates

●chronic illness
●sexual disorders
●kidney stones
●heart problems
●a backache
●and other pains in the joints.

Many other vata ailments like
●muscle aches
●and headaches
may also be treated with basti.

Vata is a real causative culprit in pathogenesis. If we are able to balance vata through the usage of basti, we will be able to control a huge majority of ailments. Vata is the primary etiological element in the manifestation of ailments. It’s the motive force behind the retention and elimination of urine, faeces, bile and other excreta.

There are eight chief types of basti, based on conventional texts, each with their own signs and contra-indications

1.  Anuvasana or oil enema

It can be employed in pure vata disorders and when a person is having excessive nutrition deficiency or dryness associated with vata imbalances.

2.  Niruha-Asthapana

(decoction enema) can be utilized, among other ailments, such as

●to pacify vata,
●nervous ailments, ●gastro-intestinal vata ailments,
●particular fever ailments, ●unconsciousness,
●particular urinary conditions, ●hunger,
●hyperacidity and
●heart ailments.

3.  Uttara Basti (via the urethra for men and vagina for women  can be used

●to treat sexual problems
●to get several issues involving painful urination
●or kidney ailments.

This isn’t to be used for someone having diabetes.

4.  Matra Basti (daily oil enema) can be used by somebody

●emaciated by overwork or
●too much exercise,
●too much heavy lifting, ●walking too long of a space,
●a lot of sexual activity or ●somebody with chronic vata disorders.

It doesn’t have to be accompanied by any rigorous dietary restriction or everyday routine and may be treated, in the right situations, in most seasons. It gives strength, promotes weight and assists removal of waste products.

5.  Karma Basti combination of 30 bases,

6.  Kala Basti

Combination of 15 bastis, 10 oil + 5 decoction

7.  Yoga Basti

program of 8 bastis, 5 petroleum + 3 decoction.

8.  Brihanam Basti (nutritional enema) is employed for supplying deep nourishment in severe ailments. Traditionally, highly nutritive substances are utilized, such as

●hot milk,
●milk broth,
●bone soup and
●herbs such as Shatavari or ashwagandha.

Used in

●low back pain
●anxious ailments a vata ●headache
●muscle atrophy

Contra-Indications for Basti

Enema treatment shouldn’t be used if the individual is experiencing
●bleeding of the anus,
●chronic indigestion,
●acute anaemia,
●pulmonary tuberculosis,
●old age or
●for children under age seven decades.

General Contraindication for oil enemas

●low Agni,
●enlarged liver or spleen, ●unconsciousness,
●tuberculosis and
a cough.

General contraindications to getting decoction enemas

●inflammation of anus,
●diabetes and
●a number of ailments involving painful or difficult breathing.

Contraindication for nutrient enemas

●lymphatic obstruction,

Nasya Karama नस्य कर्म

The nose is our door to the brain and consciousness. The nasal administration of medicine is known as nasya. Vitiated Doshas gathered in the nasal, sinuses, throat or head regions is removed by way of the closest possible outlet, the nose. Prana or nerve energy is the force that controls our mind and emotions and preserves motor and sensory capabilities. Prana also simplifies mental tasks, memory, concentration and intellectuality. Deranged or vitiated prana creates faulty functioning of all of these actions and creates

●loss of memory and ●decreased sensory perception.

Thus  administrated through the nose, Nasya is suggested for

●prana ailments,
●sinus congestion,
●a migraine
●convulsions and
●particular eye and ear issues.

Believe me, friends, it’s my personal experience to use Nasya karma for my patients of acute sinus, migraine headache, it gives a magical relief when practised by proper procedures. There are six chief kinds of Nasya, as recorded below.

1.  Pradhamana or virechan Nasya is a cleansing nasya.

In this dry powders are used instead of oils which are blown into the nose using a tube. Pachamama Nasya is principally employed for kapha kinds of ailments involving

●heaviness in the head,
●nasal congestion,
●sticky eyes,
●hoarseness of voice due to vitiated kapha,
●cervical lymphadenitis,
●Some skin diseases,
●Inflammation of the nasal mucosa,

Traditionally, powders like Brahmi are utilized.

2.  Brahman Nasya (nourishment nasya) uses

●shatavari ghee,
●ashwagandha ghee and

Medicated milk is utilized chiefly for vata disorders. It’s reputed to benefit conditions caused by vata imbalances like

●vata-type headaches,
●a migraine headache,
●tingling of voice,
●dry nose,
●the heaviness of eyelids,
●stiffness in the throat,
●dry sinuses and
●lack of sensation of smell.

3.  Shaman Nasya or sedative nasya can be utilized according to that which dosha is aggravated but chiefly for pitta-type ailments like

●thinning of hair,
●conjunctivitis and
●ringing in the ears.

Generally certain
●herbal treated decoctions,
●teas and
that are treated are utilized.

4.  Navana Nasya or decoction Nasya can be employed in

●vata-pitta or
●kapha-pitta ailments

and is created out of decoctions and oils collectively.

5. Marshya ghee or oil nasya

6.  Prati Marshya or daily oil nasya

●Piper longum,
●black pepper,
●curry pepper,
●rose, vanilla, mogra flowers and henna.

●after bathing,
●eating or drinking of alcohol
●shouldn’t be used under seven years or over 80 years.

Number 5


This procedure is used to remove toxins and impure substances from the body. Due to our unhealthy eating habits, toxins produced within the gastrointestinal tract are absorbed into the bloodstream and circulated through the body. This problem is known as toxaemia, that’s the fundamental reason for

●recurrent infections, ●hypertension and
●some other cardiovascular ailments.

●repeated attacks of skin ailments like urticaria, ●psoriasis,
●or itching.

In these circumstances, together with internal medicine, elimination of these toxins and purification of the blood is essential. Raktamoksha is also suggested for cases of ●enlarged liver, spleen and ●arthritis. Extracting a little bit of blood in the vein relieves the pressure produced by mainly the pitta toxins from the blood. Raktamokshan additionally stimulates the spleen to generate antitoxic compounds that help to stimulate the immune system. Bloodletting is contraindicated in cases of

●intense weakness,
●diabetes as well as
●in children and older persons.
●young kids
●during pregnancy
●during puberty

Side Effects of Panchakarma

There are no side effects noticed, as our system gets rid of toxins by these procedures, one may feel the heated or cold body, but this is temporary and body will adapt the healthy changes soon.

So friends, now we can emphasize that Ayurveda, ancient Alternate System of medicine, embraces so many therapies, for the prevention or cure of today’s common ailments. The point to remember is to use these procedures with great caution keeping in point of view, the age, severity and condition of the patient.
