Scientifically called Garcinia atroviridis, Asam Gelugur is a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia. This plant is used by local healers not only to treat earache and acne but also to control body weight.
 
 
The chemical composition of the plant is abundant in hydroxy citric acid, known to be very effective in weight reduction and cholesterol decrease. The World Journal of Gastroenterology published a report in 2009 documenting their findings on the significant decrease in body weight and fat when people use calcium hydroxy citrate supplements.
 
 
Often times, people confuse Garcinia atroviridis with Garcinia cambogia, commonly referred to as gambooge. The two plants are of the same plant family but are from different species, hence the difference in effect. Long-term effects of the herb still remain unknown.

According to a study published in December 2010 by the Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism, plant chemicals are known as pregnane glycosides were found in the plant.
 
 
 These chemicals affect the hypothalamus, an area of the brain that controls body temperature, hunger, and mood. It helps to suppress appetite which makes it potential for treating obesity and the illnesses linked to it.

3.Psyllium

Morus bombycis, a deciduous tree commonly referred to as Mulberry is native to Asia and is known for its edible fruits. Yet, its appeal doesn’t end there since the plant is said to affect metabolism as well. The leaves and roots are used by traditional healers to treat metabolic disorders such as high cholesterol and diabetes.
 
 
The Journal of Ethnopharmacology published in their August 2010 issue the study conducted by Y.S. Kim and colleagues on Mulberry root extract in vitro. Findings of the study showed that Mulberry had a strong inhibitory effect on an enzyme called lipase, which is part of the absorption process of fats and oils, and the primary source of excess calories.
 
 
Mulberry was also found to be as effective as orlistat, a diet drug known for fat absorption but can have mild to serious side effects.

S.Wolfram and colleagues published their study in the February 2006 issue of Molecular Nutrition and Food Research, stating the effectiveness of green tea in a fat reduction by breaking down of fat, inhibiting fat development and a decrease of fat absorption. Although their study was published, further studies are still needed to confirm these results.
 
 
It’s very easy to consume because everyone knows how to prepare green tea for weight loss.
 
Precaution
 
For people with kidney, thyroid, heart or anxiety disorders, use green tea cautiously as it contains caffeine. Avoid using when you’re on blood thinning medication.
